Mr. Evan Meyers

Founding Executive Director

Evan Meyers became an educator after a 20-year career in finance. He was a founding faculty member at the High School for Language and Diplomacy (“LAD”) where he taught history, created new programs and forged partnerships with outside educational providers such as Private Prep and Let’s Get Ready (SAT tutoring services) to enhance his students’ educational experiences. Evan was instrumental in organizing professional development and leading team-building programs for all staff members at LAD. During his tenure Evan also launched an extracurricular community “Service Club” to foster student civic engagement. In its first year of operation, students logged over 1500 hours of work. The club received the Northeast Region’s Honorable Mention recognition from the Jefferson Awards for Public Service. Before becoming an educator, Evan was involved in youth sports for 15 years. He coached multiple sports and was president of a 1200 family Little League. He and his wife have enjoyed raising their three children. Evan received his Master’s in the Teaching of Social Studies from Columbia’s Teachers College in 2009. He received his school administrator's license from the Department of Education’s Leadership Education Apprenticeship Program in 2014. As a longtime member of the Board of Trustees for Facing History and Ourselves, Evan has completed multiple professional development workshops. Last summer Evan completed the intensive “Future of Education” program at Harvard University’s Project Zero. Prior to becoming an educator, Evan received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and then spent 20 years on the floor of the Commodities Exchange in NY (COMEX). He founded York Commodities in 1992, which grew to be the largest execution firm on the COMEX from 1998-2001. Evan is an educator with a proven track record of helping students succeed beyond their expectations. He has made a personal commitment to build a school community that nurtures students on their paths to college and future careers. Evan is excited to lead the S2 team of smart, innovative educators who are dedicated to both their craft and to learning and growing as a team. As a lifelong learner, Evan will support the team in modeling this important quality for children. School in the Square views its work through the lens of “what is best for the children.” That is the lens Evan has always maintained as an educator and parent.
