Ms. Sindia Vasquez
Special Education Department Chair
As the 6th grade Special Education lead teacher, Sindia brings over 10 years of classroom experience, with 5 of those years teaching mathematics to children with special needs in an ICT classroom. She prioritizes in reaching all kinds of learners. Her commitment to developing every child’s progress regardless of academic history, potential learning obstacles or developmental gaps is what drives Sindia to come to work every single day.
Sindia began her career in education at Harlem Day Charter School, where she worked as the 2nd grade lead teacher. Her leadership and commitment in that school lead her to pursue a master’s degree in Special Education at, The City College of New York. After receiving her master’s degree, Sindia decided to work closely with students who have disabilities particularly in Harlem. She became apart of a progressive charter school network called, Harlem Village Academy. At Harlem Village Academy, Sindia was able to do the things she loved the most, teaching mathematics to students with disabilities and helping families and students advocate for themselves, if they had individualized educational plans. During her time at Harlem Village Academy, Sindia organized CSE meetings and was apart of the 5th and 6th grade child study team. Sindia, led child study team meetings and worked closely with teachers to develop academic and behavioral plans for students in need. Besides being the super educator she is, Sindia is a mom of two beautiful children who she loves spending her time with, when she is not in the classroom.
