Ms. Sophie Burton

Visual Arts Teacher

Sophie Burton is an Australian Visual Arts teacher, with experience teaching in Australia, the United Kingdom and, most recently, the United States.

In Australia, Sophie taught students aged 11 to 18 in Visual Arts and Drama. She also supported students’ welfare as the Year Coordinator for the graduating class of 2017. Being incredibly passionate about student welfare and positive psychology, Sophie led a team of teachers in positive education practices for improving student engagement.

In the United Kingdom, Sophie worked as a Visual Arts teacher in North London, again for students aged 11 to 18 years. Sophie also worked as a special education teacher, during which time she taught life skills to young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, and supported them in finding jobs and suitable assisted living arrangements.

Sophie has a Bachelor of Teaching and Bachelor of Arts from The Australian Catholic University, Sydney. She majored in Visual Arts education and minored in Drama education. During her studies, she explored a wide range of studio art-making techniques, which she enjoys sharing with her students, offering a myriad of art-making experiences.

Sophie is excited to join School in the Square. She hopes that she can pass her passion for art onto the school’s students and inspire them to be creative individuals.
