Ms. Chandra Williams
Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Chandra has enjoyed her tenure working with students, families, and teachers over the last 17 years. The opportunity to teach for ten years in upper elementary and middle school grades, and then lead schools for the past seven years, has truly been a pleasure. She began her teaching career as an 8th-grade math teacher in Washington, DC. After teaching for two years she knew that she wanted to further her education and she decided to pursue her Master’s degree in New York City. Upon graduating she remained in New York and taught for five years in an elementary school in Harlem. During this time her passion for teaching also led her to work with new teachers as an instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University. She returned to California, where she was born, to support in the founding of a charter school in Oakland, California. In California, she served as a K-8 art teacher as well as a member of the leadership team. She eventually returned to New York and has worked as a Founding Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Assistant Principal for the past five years in East Harlem and Brooklyn.
Earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Howard University and a Master of Arts in Elementary Inclusive Education from Teachers College, Columbia University has provided Chandra the unique fortune to couple her knowledge of best organizational practices and educating young children in an inclusive way.
For Chandra, School in the Square is an exciting chance for her to perfect her craft as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction as she coaches teachers and support staff with best practices in teaching and learning. She is a collaborative educator who prides herself on being a thought partner for any initiatives that will enhance the advancement of students.
