Mr. David Brown

8th Grade Social Studies Teacher

David Brown began was a swimming coach in southeastern Michigan and taugh English in Namibia as a Peace Corps Volunteer before moving to New York City.  He continued his educational journey in the Bronx as a Social Studies and English teacher with the Internationals Network at Bronx International and ELLIS Preparatory Academy. Most recently, David taught Social Studies and English at Mamaroneck High school. David’s focus has always been on teaching the whole student and meeting students where they are in their academics. This means designing curriculum and lessons that utilizes reading, writing, listening and speaking through relevant project based lessons. David's approach assumes that all students can be successful and gives students choice within their learning.

David Brown received his BA in Political Science from The University of Michigan. During his senior year, he studied abroad in Israel working on an archaeological dig. David received secondary English training before serving two years as a volunteer teacher in rural Namibia. Upon returning to the US in 2002, David worked toward and received his Master’s in Science in TESOL from City College and has been teaching ever since. Mr. Brown is very excited to be joining the staff at School in the Square and hopes to add his life experiences and passion for teaching to S2’s community, providing all students the opportunity to excel.
