Ms. Sarah Scheinfeld
7th Grade Science Teacher
Sarah has taught middle school science in Queens and did her student teaching in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science in Queens, Sarah was an advisor to a group of 8th graders. She was also a MakerSpace Fellow and ran a year-long after school program where students interested in the Engineering Design Process could participate in STEAM project-based learning. Projects included video game design, rocket science, and 3D printing! Prior to working as a classroom teacher, Sarah managed an urban gardening education program for a non-profit organization based in Harlem. She worked with middle schools in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx teaching environmental science and urban gardening outdoors through the fall and spring seasons and bringing the outdoors into the classroom during the winter.
Sarah earned her BS in Environmental Science with a focus in Human Health from The University of Vermont. While there, she studied abroad in Monteverde, Costa Rica, for a semester where she had the opportunity to study Spanish and Tropical Ecology. Sarah’s favorite activity during college was coordinating an environmental education after school program called SEEDS (Student Environmental Educators Doing Service) that served elementary schools in the nearby area. After college, she attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where she obtained a Master of Public Health degree in Environmental Health. Most recently, Sarah received a Masters of Art in Teaching Science Education at Boston University.
Sarah’s goal is to help her students cultivate a strong sense of academic responsibility and build the skills they need to be successful in whatever path they choose. Sarah is looking forward to joining the School in the Square Team and she can’t wait to meet her students and their families! She is eager to be part of a collaborative science department and to share her passion for science and her curiosity about the world with her students. Sarah is extremely excited to become a part of a caring and mindful community with a love for learning.
