Ms. Sara Poleman
Sara Poleman is a fifth-year Visual Arts educator with experience teaching all grade levels Both in and out of traditional educational settings. Sara began her professional teaching practice in South Central Los Angeles, working with Elementary aged students at KIPP: Empower Elementary School. However it wasn’t until she began a position at Alliance Richard Merkin Middle School teaching 7th graders in Downtown Los Angeles that she realized her love for teaching Middle School Art.
Sara attended Ithaca College and received a double degree in Art Education with a minor in Art History and a concentration in painting. During her sophomore year of college, Sara participated in the Semester at Sea program, where she lived for a semester on the M.V. Explorer and sailed around the world visiting and studying in 11 different countries on 4 continents. It was on this voyage that Sara experienced the persistence of human connection through creating art, despite vastly differing systems of education. Seeing first hand the power of art as a tool for communication, celebration, and expression, Sara returned to Ithaca College empowered to continue her path as an Art Educator.
Sara is very excited to be joining the School in the Square team, and hopes to inspire her students and the school community through the power of artistic self-expression!
