Ms. Madeline Farnham
6th Grade ELA Teacher
Madeline Farnham is a middle school educator who began her career teaching reading intervention at a public middle school in Houston, Texas. During her time in Texas, she strove to make meaningful connections with her students through providing rigorous yet engaging lessons to both 8th and 6th grade students. Madeline specialized in creating differentiated lessons for students based on data and incorporated a student-driven data tracking system into her class. She made herself available to students by offering lunch-time and after school tutorials to those who were looking to push their learning outside of designated class time. Under her supervision, students were able to design and establish a student-led club aimed at preventing animal abuse in the surrounding community. The founding of this club was inspired by an expository essay-writing project in her class! During her past year as a full-time graduate student, Madeline immersed herself in a local high school and became an non-profit program assistant, tutor, and classroom assistant. In previous years she has worked as a summer school instructor, high school teaching assistant, camp counselor, and literacy tutor in both formal and informal educational settings. In 2019, Madeline received her Masters of Education (EdM) from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she concentrated on topics such as educational ethics, teaching quality, and leadership for social change. Prior to earning her graduate degree, Madeline received a BA in Public Relations and Policy Studies from Syracuse University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2016. During her time at Syracuse, her passion for education grew as she began to explore the sector first through a policy perspective before entering elementary and high school classrooms to gain additional insight. She spent a semester in Washington, D.C. where she studied international relations and interned for a domestic education-based lobbying firm. Madeline is thrilled to join the team of passionate educators as part of the S2 community. With newfound perspective, Madeline looks forward to observing the great work that is already happening at S2 and seeks to use her experience and education to help both herself and her students realize their potential. She believes that great education starts with great relationships and is excited to get to know students, staff, and the community!
