Mayela brings to S2 over 10 years of international and domestic youth development experience. Prior to S2, she most recently worked on the corporate partnerships team at Girls Who Code helping raise nearly $3M during her time there. In March earlier this year, she was invited to speak at the United Nations Headquarters about her experience mobilizing youth to achieve SDG's. She also worked with corporate and strategic partnerships at City Year New York and Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC as well as the management of their diversity employee resource groups. Finally, she also has experience with early-stage tech startups with social impact, Quartet and Sawyer Effect, solving issues such as integrating mental health into primary care.
Before officially moving to NYC in 2015, she lived in sub-Saharan Africa for 3 years where she completed her 2-year Peace Corps service in Cameroon and a fellowship with MCW Global directing their youth vocational centers in Rwanda and Tanzania. As an immigrant from Mexico City, Mayela brings her passion, insights, and her why for diversity, equity and inclusion to guide her work with high-need communities. As a personal passion project, she started a scholarship fund for at-risk youth in her Peace Corps village of Bibemi that she has continued since 2014.
