The School in the Square

Journey

School in the Square, established in 2016, is an anchor community member with four public charter school campuses in Washington Heights and Inwood  for each stage of growth: early childhood learning, elementary, middle and high school.

Our safe and empowering community culture, driven by our “relationships first” educational philosophy, delivers meaningful learning experiences every day. At School in the Square, our dedicated faculty, staff and leadership are committed to ensuring that your children are known, seen, heard and encouraged to be their best and most accomplished selves.

What makes School in the Square uniquely effective is our alignment across all four campuses in pursuit of our goal for each child: to empower literate, culturally competent thinkers and skilled learners who understand their power and their responsibility to engage actively and compassionately in their school and home communities.

Our students begin their School in the Square journey with dual language English and Spanish programming at our campuses in Inwood - the Early Childhood Center (Pre-K) and Elementary School (Grades K-5). Students from 6th-8th grade thrive at our middle school campus in Washington Heights, while 9th and 10th graders attend our beautiful high school across from Fort Tryon Park on Sherman Avenue.
