Evan Meyers’ Bio
Executive Director and Founder
Evan Meyers is the Founder and Executive Director of School in the Square, a Pre-K–12 public charter network serving families in Washington Heights and Inwood. After securing state approval and opening School in the Square’s first campus, Evan has led the organization’s evolution from a single Middle School to a coherent pathway that now includes a Bilingual Early Childhood Center, a Bilingual Elementary School, and a High School—fulfilling the promise to walk side by side with families from preschool to the doorstep of college. Today, School in the Square serves more than 900 students, combining rigorous academics with a relationships-first culture that centers belonging, agency, and joyful learning.
A builder of partnerships and systems, Evan has cultivated collaborations with leading education organizations to strengthen curriculum, teaching, and student support. He has also grown School in the Square’s capacity to serve as an anchor institution for the neighborhood—opening doors to community programming and deepening ties with families and local partners. Before launching School in the Square, he taught high school social studies in New York City and completed the NYC Department of Education’s LEAP principal apprenticeship, experiences that ground his approach to school design and leadership. He holds an M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a B.A. from UMass Amherst.
Under Evan’s leadership, School in the Square’s north star remains constant: build excellent schools with—and for—the community, so that every child and family is known, challenged, and supported to thrive.
