Jumaane Saunders is an exceptionally strong match for the Dos Amigos community of students, families and faculty.
As a school and youth program leader in New York City for more than 20 years, and most recently in the Dominican Republic, Jumaane has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to community building through “leading from the center,” as he puts it.
From 2020-2023, Jumaane served as Secondary Principal (Grades 6-12) of the International School of Sosua in the Dominican Republic. From 2013-2020 he was the founding K-5 Elementary Principal and School Designer for the Brooklyn Prospect Charter School. Since 2018 he has also been a member of the Board of Trustees of Charter High School for Law and Social Justice in the South Bronx and is currently the Vice-Chair.
He began his teaching career as a Chemistry Instructor and Grade Supervisor at New York’s School of the Future and earned both his Masters of Education, Educational Leadership and his Masters of Arts, Educational Politics and Finance at Columbia University’s Teachers College.
