Hannah Werno Bio
Principal, Middle School

Hannah Werno joined School in the Square in 2024. In just one year, her leadership has helped our students achieve ELA results above both the district and the state average.

Prior to joining School in the Square, Hannah worked at Success Academy in New York City, where she served first as a science teacher and content lead, then as Assistant Principal.  While Assistant Principal at Success Academy, 100% of students in her school passed the Algebra and Living Environment Regents in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years. 

She also previously served as the principal in residence/academic director for STEM at Public Preparatory Network. During her time there, her school saw a 16% growth in proficiency on the NYS Math Test from 2021 to 2023.  In the 2022-2023 school year, interim assessments improved by 28% in math and 27% in science; 60% of students showed growth on the MAP Math assessment.

A graduate of North Carolina State University, Hannah earned her Master of Education degree from Boston University while serving in the Teach For America Corps Program.
