Monica Merchant's Bio
Director, Data and Finance

Monica Merchant joined School in the Square in 2016 as the founding director of operations and currently serves as Director of Data and Finance. She manages all student demographic and academic data, staff data, state compliance data, and also maintains the financial and operational systems, providing information for leaders, staff, and families.

Before School in the Square, Monica started as a Teach For America special education teacher and later built a special education program that improved coordination of services and regulatory compliance. She subsequently supported the launch of a charter network in East Harlem, where she oversaw all of the school's non-instructional operations—enrollment, HR, finance, facilities, compliance, and technology—through the network’s growth to two campuses.
