Apply to School in the Square: 4 Easy Steps
Choosing a school is a big decision, and we’re glad you’re thinking of us. The good news is that applying is simple. School in the Square is free, seats are offered by lottery, and our team is here to help at every step.
Beginning in School Year 2027-28, School in the Square will be a full PreK through 12th grade community. One place, from a child's very first classroom to the year they decide what comes next. Applications for the 2027-28 school year are now open.
Step 1: Start your application
The fastest way is online through SchoolMint:
- Log in to your SchoolMint account. If you don't have access yet, create an account and log in.
- Check the year toggle in the top right corner. Make sure it matches the year you're applying for, such as 2027-2028.
- Click Admissions, then select Create Applications from the dropdown.
- Enter your preferred email or phone number, then set the Communication Language to the one you prefer. This is how you'll receive messages.
Would you like support with your application? Review this SchoolMint guide or email our enrollment team at enroll@schoolinthesquare.org, and we’ll walk you through the process.
Step 2: Join the lottery
Every application that arrives before April 1, 2027, goes into a random lottery. Test scores do not matter, and neither does who applies first. Siblings of current students, children of staff, and families who live in School District 6 get priority. You can read the details in our enrollment FAQ.
Step 3: Get your results
After the April lottery, every family gets an email. If a seat is not open right away, your child joins the waitlist. Offers keep going through the summer and into the fall, so a waitlist spot is not a no.
Step 4: Complete enrollment
When your child gets an offer, the enrollment team emails the paperwork and walks you through every step, in English or in Spanish. Once your child is in, they have a place here through graduation. You never have to reapply.
